Terrasses du Larzac & Montpeyroux - LANGUEDOC
Since 1997, Pascale Riviere has been the powerhouse behind one of the finest projects in the Languedoc. Across 11 hectares of limestone and clay, including the cru regions of Montpeyroux and Terrasses du Larzac, she farms her mix of magical plots organically and the resulting wines are bursting with life, vitality and a freshness that dazzles. A multitude of varieties come together; charming, energetic and elegant in their concentration. These wines, Pascale’s fire and the voice of this place are unmissable.
She also heads up a highly respected group of female led, family-run domains across the Languedoc Roussillon called Vinifilles. Organic certification from Ecocert.
THE WINES
La Jasse Castel ‘l’Egrisee’ Blanc Languedoc AOP
Pascale Riviere runs one of the most interesting domaines in all of the Languedoc, her wines elegantly presenting the oldest vine growing terroir in France. 'l'Egrisee' is divine. Textured, effortless and refined, a gentle wave of mineral/herb studded pear and melon with anise and lavender. Gorgeous.
La Jasse Castel ‘El Abanico’ Blanc Pays Herault IGP
The most unique white wine of the Languedoc from leading light Pascale Riviere. Two barrels of this outrageous wine are made from one tiny plot of White Carignan, Grenache, Roussanne, Chardonnay, Petit Manseng, Chenin that were planted in 2009 on the Causse de Montpeyroux at an altitude of 400 meters. The wine is expertly oxidative, powerful, fresh, hyper complex and driven by an incredible seam of acidity. One of the greatest white wines we have ever tasted.
La Jasse Castel ‘Tutti Frutti’ Rosé Saint Guilhem Le Desert IGP
Three colours of the ancient grape 'Terret' go into this rampaging pink wine. Unique and exuberant, it holds nothing back. Raspberry strap, apricot and marshmallow. It's greedy and can drink like a super fresh light red.
La Jasse Castel ‘Romeo’ Saint Guilhem Le Desert IGP
Romeo is another gem from Pascale and the name of the man who planted the 60 year old Carignan in the blend. In her characteristic style, the wine is sleek, naturally open and elegant. Fruit purity is perfect as always and energy, charm and generosity are key. Cool red and black fruits, garrigue and spice from the Cabernet complimented by a lovely ripe tannins.
La Jasse Castel ‘Pimpanela’ Languedoc AOP
Another expressive, pure wine from this incredible small estate. Pimpanela means 'peony' in Occitan but also 'clever woman'. This pure, luscious red is 40% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 20% Carignan, 30% Cinsault and is aged in vats for 6 months. There are lashings of purple and blue berries, bay leaf garrigue and pepper. The wine is gastronomic and sumptuous, all in an elegant framework with delicious fruit tannin for grip and texture.
